Here's a website encouraging people to 1) Move to LCD screens, and 2) Use dark backgrounds for their websites. Apparently having a dark background on your website can save power used by CRTs displaying its content. Rising Phoenix Design

Hi Fred! I just thought it may be a good idea to ask the Google Guys to provide a "customizing" option that allows us to use Gmail screens with white text on a black background. After all,Google's official motto is "Do no evil"! :-) Google allows us to leave our suggestions on their "Services" page,so the steps we need to take are simple: 1.Go to this webpage : https://services.google.com/inquiry/gmail_suggest/ 2.Click on the first box(Requesting the color-customization option for gmail users) 3.Give the energy-saving reasons you think are relevant in the box provided I have emailed a lot of people who I thought would be interested in doing this and many of them have already sent in this request to Google. We figured that if everyone changed their webpages to black,we would have a sadly monochromatic web,but switching over to black email screens seems like a good option. In addition,I have found that the United States Department of Energy has published data relating to the energy consumption of screens of different colors here: http://www.microtech.doe.gov/energystar/info.htm Thanks, Avantika
